California State University System
POMONA, Calif. – At the beginning of June, Billy Bronco joined 15 of his California State University (CSU) mascot friends in a trip to the California's Capitol. Billy Bronco spent the day visiting with elected officials and their staffs and supporting the CSU's mission of being an outstanding university system.
Mascot Day is part of #StandWithCSU, a budget advocacy effort aimed at urging lawmakers to fully fund the Support Budget approved by the CSU Board of Trustees. California State Universities are the largest producer of bachelor's degrees in the state and the leading provider of college degrees to Latino and African-American students.
The CSU is requesting an additional $101 million from the Legislature, of which $50 million would be used for strategic campus efforts to increase graduation rates and decrease time to degree. Systemwide, graduation rates have increased by 19 percent since 2009.
Between his trip to Sacramento and his regular activity on Twitter, Billy Bronco has had a busy summer. After a week of relaxation by the BRIC pool, he will resume conditioning and strength workouts to be ready for the start of soccer, volleyball and cross country events in September.
