LA JOLLA, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona suffered a 3-0 loss to Northwest Nazarene Thursday afternoon in the opening match of the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase held in La Jolla at UC San Diego.
The Broncos' offense was limited to a .083 attack percentage while the opposition, NNU, posted a .190 mark in that category. With the result, CPP falls to 2-3 on the season while the Crusaders remain undefeated at 4-0.

Alina Smith demonstrated her versatility at the setter position, collected 27 assists to go along with 11 digs and four kills. For the fifth-consecutive match,
Samantha Figueroa paced the squad in digs with 18.
A kill by Smith late in the first game pulled CPP to within 22-21 but NNU rallied to score three of the next four points to wrap up the 25-22 result. The second frame proved just as close with the Broncos drawing even at 23-23 after Blaine lined a kill from a Smith assist. The Crusaders took advantage of service and attack errors by CPP, taking that game 25-23.
The NNU momentum carried over into the third and final frame as the Crusaders cruised to a 15-8 edge. The margin stayed fairly wide the rest of the way as NNU took that game 25-15.
Leading the way for the Crusaders was Kendra Bodine, who totaled 13 kills with an attack percentage of .211.
The Broncos will play two matches on Friday at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla. Up first, CPP challenges Point Loma at 10 a.m. Then at 5 p.m., the Broncos take on Central Washington.
