SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Behind
Chelsea Waddy-Blow's 25-points, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team downed Cal State San Marcos on Thursday night, winning 68-47 on the road in the Sports Center Arena.
Waddy-Blow added 12 rebounds as the Broncos improved to 8-7 overall on the season, and 6-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Rebounding was key for the Broncos who tallied 23 offensive rebounds in the game, outrebounding the Cougars (8-6, 5-4 CCAA) 48-32 overall. Along with Waddy-Blow,
Priscilla Brooks finished with 12 rebounds and was the second play to earn a double-double for the Broncos with 14 points.
Never trailing in the contest, CPP jumped out ahead 4-0 to open the night before finishing the first quarter with a 14-10 advantage.
Nine different Broncos scored in the contest as
Casey McWilliam finished with 10 points, going 3-of-5 from three-point range, followed by
Dominique Dotson with seven and
Alyssa Benton with six points.
Taking a 36-29 lead into the half, CPP outscored San Marcos 18-12 in the third quarter.
Defensively, the Broncos held CSUSM to a field goal percentage of 28 percent, recording eight steals and forcing 16 turnovers by the Cougars.
The most dominating quarter for the Broncos came in the fourth as they outscored the Cougars by eight points to secure the victory.
Jordyn Shane gave CPP four assists along with six rebounds while McWilliam and Benton added five rebounds apiece.
The Broncos return to Kellogg Arena next week after just over a month on the road, welcoming in Stanislaus State on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
