Men's Basketball Earns Their Third Straight Win, 58-42 Over Monterey Bay

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team's winning streak continued on the road Friday night, defeating Cal State Monterey Bay 58-42 in the Otter Sports Center for their third straight California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) win.

The Broncos (6-10, 4-8 CCAA) had three players reach double figures in scoring, led by freshman Riley Schaefer with 12 points. Schaefer also added five rebounds and two assists on the night.

Following him was Jeremy Dennis and Jordan Ogundiran each with 10 points while Chris Sullivan added nine points and a team high six rebounds.

CPP scored the first points of the night after a three-pointer by Ogundiran and never looked back, holding on to the lead for the majority of the night with the only tie coming in the middle of the second half.

Both teams stayed close throughout the first half, with the largest lead being held by the Broncos 15-7.

Monterey (3-15, 1-11 CCAA) tied the game in the start of the second half, 20-20, and kept the game close for the first few minutes of the half. The Otters were led by Gregg Polosky and Matt Bejsovec who tallied 10 points each.

With a 35-31 lead with 10:26 to go in the game, the Broncos made their big breakaway with an 11-0 run, capped off with three straight three-pointers, two of those shots coming from Nikhil Peters.

CPP shot 52 percent in the second half and won the turnover margin 10-24 to hold on to the lead for good.

The Broncos look to continue this streak tomorrow as they travel to Cal State East Bay for another CCAA contest with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
