LOS ANGELES., Calif. – In game three of their four game road stint, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team came up against a strong shooting performance from Cal State Los Angeles, losing 71-59 on Saturday night in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
The Broncos (3-9, 1-7 CCAA) were led by junior guard
Jeremy Dennis who tallied a game high 20 points while adding four steals and three rebounds. Behind him was freshman
Riley Schaefer who finished with a season high 16 points.
Tied 15-15 in the first half, CSULA (7-9, 3-5 CCAA) made their first breakaway, racking up a seven points lead with 5:33 left on the clock.
CPP came within one point of the lead before the Golden Eagles matched their highest lead of the first half, capped off by a three-pointer by Jordan Nelson-Brown, making it 36-29 heading into the locker rooms.
The Broncos shot 49 percent from the field while CSULA notched a field goal percentage of 67 percent while earning a 29-20 advantage in rebounds.
Travis Hammonds led CSULA with 16 points while Garrett Carter added 13 points and six rebounds.
In the second half, the Eagles tallied their largest lead of the night in the 16-minute mark at 43-31. The Broncos continued to fight back, bringing the game to within two-point, 54-52, but couldn't slow down CSULA's offense in the end.
Sophomore
Jordan Ogundiran totaled six points for the Broncos and
Daylan Lawrence contributed five rebounds and four points.
The Broncs return to CCAA action next Thursday as they travel to Cal State San Marcos on Jan. 12 for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
