Women's Basketball handed 51-48 Road Loss to CSULA

LOS ANGELES., Calif. – Offense was hard to come by for both teams  on Saturday night, as the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team was dealt a 51-48 loss against Cal State Los Angeles.
 
The loss drops the Broncos to 7-7 overall on the season and 5-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) while CSULA improves to 9-7, 6-2 CCAA.
 
After finishing the first quarter tied 6-6, the Golden Eagles started to break away from CPP, building a 21-12 lead with 3:26 left in the half.
 
The Broncos closed the gap using an 8-0 run to end the first half of play, keeping it a one-point game heading into the break at 21-20.
 
Priscilla Brooks was the top performer for CPP, earning a double-double with 10 points while grabbing a season high 14 rebounds. Following her was Jordyn Shane with nine points and six boards while Chelsea Waddy-Blow capped the night with eight points.
 
CPP shot 41 percent from the field but struggled at the free throw line, shooting only 40 percent compared to 70 percent from CSULA.
 
The second half continued with neither team able to gain a big edge over the other. The Golden Eagles worked their largest lead of the second half in the fourth quarter, 44-38, with 3:27 left to play.
 
The Broncos made it a one point game with 36 second left after Casey McWilliam hit a 3-pointer, making it 49-48 in favor of the Eagles.
 
McWilliam and Dominique Dotson totaled six points each while Dotson added seven rebounds and two steals.
 
Winning 50-48, CSULA held on to win after forcing a turnover with 11 second to secure their victory at home.
 
The Broncos play again next week as they continue their road stint as Cal State San Marcos on Thursday, Jan. 12.
