Volleyball Survives Stanislaus State in Five Sets

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team found themselves back on the winning side of things, defeating Stanislaus State 3-2 (25-12, 23-25, 25-15, 23-25, and 15-13) in Kellogg Arena on Friday night.

With the win, the Broncos improve to 10-11 overall and 6-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Four Broncos finished in double-digit figures in kills while Kristen Hamlin leading the way with 15 kills. Following her was Jenny Goldsberry with 14 kills, Andrea Bosnic with 12 kills and Desi Martin with 10 kills.

CPP opened the match with a dominating 25-12 win, scoring the first six points of the match.

The Broncos finished with a hitting percentage of .245 while holding the visitors to a percentage of .166.

Samantha Figueroa notched a match-high 21 digs in the back row while Alexandria finished with 18 and Bosnic tallied 17.

After Stanislaus tied the match at 1-1, the Broncos rallied back to retake the lead after a 25-15 set three win.

Alina Smith led the CPP offense with a match-high 53 assists, her third 50-plus assist match of the season.

In the final set of the match, the Broncos battled back from a 9-4 deficit, using an 8-2 run before a final kill by Bosnic gave CPP the win.

The Broncos return to action tomorrow night as they host Chico State at 7 p.m. at Kellogg Arena.
