POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team finished the weekend with a split in California Collegiate Athletic Association action, falling to Chico State 3-0 (20-25, 21-25, and 22-25) on Saturday night at Kellogg Arena.
With the result, the Broncos move to 10-12 overall on the year and 6-8 in the CCAA.
Desi Martin and
Alexandra Gresham led the Broncos offensively with nine kills each while
Kristen Hamlin added seven.
Despite the Broncos stringing together multiple runs throughout the night, the Wildcats found a way to bounce back and stay in control.
With the Broncos holding a 17-13 lead, Chico rattled off nine of the final 11 points of the first set to take a 1-0 lead.
Alina Smith finished with a match-high 28 assists on the night while
Samantha Figueroa collected 18 digs and
Andrea Bosnic finished with six kills and 13 digs.
The Broncos once again found themselves leading in the second set, 14-7 before the Wildcats rallied to tie the set at 21-21 before scoring the final four points.
Chico State edged out the Broncos in hitting performance, finished the night with a .254 attacking percentage while CPP finished with a hitting percentage of .212.
The third and final set when much like the previous two with the Broncos managing an early 10-4 lead before Chico State climbed back in it, tying the match at 17-17 after an 8-2 run.
The Broncos return to Kellogg Arena next weekend as they welcome in Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Los Angeles beginning on Friday, Nov. 3.
