POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team dropped the opening round match of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Postseason Tournament to Sonoma State, losing 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, Broncos move to 10-6-2 overall on the year.
Sonoma State struck first, scoring a goal in the 33rd minute of play after a shot attempt bounced off the post before landing in front of a Sonoma player who finished.
The Seawolves pressured the Broncos throughout the day, tallying 17 total shots with six landing on target. CPP tallied five shots overall with four landing on goal.
In the 44th minute,
Natalie Di Angelo converted a free kick from 22-yards out to score the equalizer, sending the match into halftime tied 1-1.
As Sonoma added two more goals in the second half, at the 65th minute and again at the 77th minute, the Broncos' offense was tallied, recording only one shot in the second half.
The Broncos will await the results of the NCAA DII West Region Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 6 for their chance at an at-large bid into the Regional Tournament.
