ARCATA – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team finished the CCAA/PacWest Challenge splitting two games as they fell to Azusa Pacific 70-58 to close out the weekend on Saturday night at Kellogg Arena.
In a tale of two halves, Azusa Pacific opened the first half on fire offensively, shooting 56 percent from the field while going 8-of-14 from the three-point line.
For CPP, they finished the first half shooting 30 percent from the field, falling behind 43-21 in after the first 20 minutes of play.
William Christmas led the Broncos for the second night in a row, registering his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Jeremy Dennis finished the night with seven rebounds and seven points while Nihkil Peters also notched seven points.
The story switched in the second half as the Broncos held APU to only 27 points, forcing them to shoot 33 percent from the field, including 14 percent from three-point (1-of-7).
CPP outscored the Cougars in the second half 37-27 but couldn't overcome the first half deficit put on by APU.
APU edged out the Broncos in points off turnovers 23-20 while CPP finished with 22 second-chance points compared to only 10 from the Cougars.
The Broncos continue play at Kellogg Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 15 as they host Bethesda University of 7 p.m.
