Broncos Advance to Third Straight West Region Title Game

SAN DIEGO – The season continues for the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team who for the third year in a row, will advance to the NCAA West Region Title match after defeating second-seed Point Loma 1-0 in San Diego on Saturday.

"So happy for this resilient group of guys. After coming off a very tough, physically demanding game on Thursday, to put in this performance was great," said head coach Adam Reeves

The Broncos improve to 16-5 overall on the year and will take on Cal Baptist in the championship match after they defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 5-0.

In a tightly contest match in which both team finished with just three shots on goal each, the Broncos earned the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute of play as Nadeer Ghantous connected on a corner kick from Sergi Monso, heading the ball at the far post to put his team head.

"We created a few very good chances early but then had to withstand a fresh, energized group for a lot of the first half. Were able to regroup and change a few things at halftime, which I thought really helped us in the second half.

Jimmie Villalobos and Dante Medina led the Broncos with two shots each, both recording one shot on goal.

"Proud to be moving on to our third straight west region final. The entire group should be really proud of themselves. They are doing the program, department and entire CPP campus community proud."

The Broncos will take on CBU for the championship in a location that will be determined on Sunday after the finalist has been decided from the South Central Region.
