Broncos Dominate Chico in First CCAA Win of the Season

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team picked up their first California Collegiate Athletic Association win in dominating fashion, defeating Chico State 66-50 on Friday night at Kellogg Arena.

The Broncos (4-3, 1-1 CCAA) tallied their third straight win as they opened up their first conference game at home.

Priscilla Brooks led the Broncos offensively, totaling 15 points on the night while shooting six-of-nine from the field.

Jumping out to a quick start, CPP held a 12-3 lead over the Wildcats before ending the first quarter with a 19-14 lead.

Jackie Ricketson played an all-around game for the Broncos, totaling 13 points while collecting six boards and four assists on the night. Brooks added seven rebounds while Alyssa Benton contributed nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.

 Chico climbed back to within two points of the Broncos but couldn't take the lead as CPP ended the first half with six straight points to lead 33-25 heading into the break.

The Broncos outshot Chico, shooting 47 percent from the field while holding the Wildcats to a mark of 34 percent.

In the second half, CPP continued to string together points, taking a 10 points lead, 46-36, heading into the final quarter of play.

CPP dominated the boards, outrebounding the Wildcats 43-25 and totaled 15 offensive rebounds.

The Broncos held a double-digit lead for a majority of the fourth quarter before a late basket gave them their largest lead of the night at 66-50.

Chelsea Waddy-Blow finished the night with eight points followed by Dominique Dotson with seven points while Jordyn Shane and Crystal Malveaux each had six points.

The Broncos return to Kellogg Arena tomorrow night, Saturday, Dec. 2, as they take on Humboldt State at 5:30 p.m.
