Broncos Bounce Back in 72-57 Win over Monterey Bay

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team found themselves on the winning side of Friday's contest, defeating Cal State Monterey Bay 72-57 at Kellogg Arena.


THE BASICS:

Records: CSUMB (4-8, 3-5 CCAA), CPP (8-2, 5-1 CCAA)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    CPP scored 11 points before the Otters found their first points of the night as the Broncos took an 11-2 lead early.
-    CPP ended the first half with a 12-point lead, winning 36-24 heading into the break.
-    The Broncos shot 48 percent from the field while earning a mark of 43 percent from the three-point line, going 6-for-14.
-    CPP outrebounded the Otters 37-24 and scored 16 points off of turnovers.
-    Monterey Bay climbed back to within six points in the second half before a three-pointer by Phoenix Shackelford started a 6-0 run to keep the Broncos on top.
-    Never trailing in the contest, the Broncos took their largest lead with just over three minutes to play, leading 72-52.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Four Broncos scored in double figures with William Christmas leading the way with 14 points.
-    Jordan Ogundiran and Jeff Nibo each finished with 13 points while Shackelford finished the night with 10 points.
-    In his first game back, Chris Sullivan tallied a team-high seven rebounds while adding four points on the night.
-    Riley Schaefer and Justin Young each added nine points for the Broncos.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    Friday's win was the second straight for the Broncos over CSUMB, winning three of the last four contests.
-    Improving to 5-1 in conference play, CPP sits in second-place in the conference standings, one game back from Chico State at 6-1.
-    Friday was the fifth time in 10 games that the Broncos held their opponents to under 60 points in the contest.
