SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Tied 43-43 with seconds to go and a possible playoff spot on the line, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team downed Cal State San Bernardino on the road in dramatic fashion as
William Christmas hit a shot at the buzzer to lift the Broncos to a 45-43 victory on Saturday night.
The win moves the Broncos to 10-12 on the season and 8-10 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, breaking the tie with the Coyotes (11-12, 7-11 CCAA).
Christmas finished with a game high 11 points and a game high in rebounds with seven. Following him was
Chris Sullivan with seven points and six rebounds, and
Daylan Lawrence also with seven points along with four rebounds.
Down 43-37 in the second half, the Coyotes scored six straight points to tie the game with 44 seconds remaining.
Christmas grabbed a rebound after a missed three-point attempt before sinking the final basket, lifting his team to an important victory.
Previously tied with CSUSB with a disadvantage in overall standings, the Broncos move ahead of the Coyotes to hold a playoff spot heading into the final weekend of CCAA action.
The Broncos shot 32 percent from the field and ended 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
CPP returns to Kellogg Arena to close out the regular season as they play host to San Francisco State on Thursday and Sonoma State on Saturday.
