POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team was unable to extend their season as they fell on the road to third-seed Sonoma State 63-56 in the Opening Round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Postseason Tournament on Tuesday night.
Jordan Ogundiran finished with a team high 14 points along with five assists and four rebounds while
Jeremy Dennis added 11 points, six rebounds with two blocks and two steals.
The Broncos stayed with the Seawolves points for points throughout the first half until Sonoma State found some breathing room after a three-pointer by Jackson Gion made it 33-24 in favor of SSU. The Seawolves would take a 33-26 advantage into the break.
The Broncos continued to find ways to score, tying the game 37-37 just over halfway through the second half.
Riley Schaefer tallied nine points for CPP while
Daylan Lawrence finished with eight points and
Chris Sullivan had seven points.
William Christmas also contributed five points and five rebounds.
Finding themselves once again down by nine points, the Broncos used an 8-2 run to bring the game to within three points, 59-56, but couldn't hang on as Sonoma State closed the game with four straight free throws.
The Broncos finished the season 8-3 at home and closed out the second half of the year winning nine of their last 12 games.
