POMONA, Calif. – With their season on the line, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team held on to win the Opening Round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament, defeating Cal State San Bernardino 54-49 on Tuesday night in Kellogg Arena.
In a game that featured six ties and eight lead changes, neither team was able to gain a significant advantage over the other.
Chelsea Waddy-Blow led the way with 17 points, shooting 7-of-10 on the night while adding eight rebounds. Behind her was
Dominique Dotson who tallied her second highest scoring mark of the season with 15 points.
The Broncos fought back from a seven-point deficit in the third quarter, the largest of the night, taking the lead in the fourth quarter 42-41 after a three-pointer by Dotson. Two straight baskets by Waddy-Blow gave CPP their largest lead at 46-41.
Priscilla Brooks added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Broncos,
Alyssa Benton tallied a high 12 rebounds and
Casey McWilliam finished with six points, going 2-of-4 from three-point line.
The Broncos closed out the final minutes of the game, outscoring the Coyotes 8-3 to clinch a spot in the Tournament Semifinals.
CPP will travel to the final site of the CCAA Tournament at Cal State San Marcos as they take on second-seed Cal State East Bay on Friday at 2:35 p.m.
