Broncos Claim Series Win with 4-3 Walk-Off Against Colorado Springs

POMONA, Calif. – Bouncing back after a tough loss last night, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team earned their first series win of 2017, sweeping Thursday's double-header against University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, winning game one 8-0 before a 4-3 walk-off finish in game two.
 
Game One:
 
Pitching dominated for the Broncos (2-1) in game one of the double-header, allowing only one hit in the 8-0 shutout. Starter Kyle Dohy pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up zero hits and only one walk while tallying seven strikeouts.
 
The Broncos' bats came alive in the third inning, scoring five runs, capped off by two RBI singles by Cody Martin and Frankie Nogales and a sacrifice fly by Chris Stratton.
 
Martin was stellar from the plate, going 2-for-3 with a game high three RBIs, including a two-run single later in the sixth inning.
 
Game Two:
 
The Broncos used a little more excitement in their second win of the day, recording the series win in walk-off fashion. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Brennan McKenzie drove in Nick Peifer from third with a base hit in the left field gap, giving the Broncos a 4-3 win.
 
Henry Omana started in game two for CPP, throwing four innings with five hits, three runs and five strikeouts. Picking up the win in relief was Peter Beatie who threw 1 1/3 innings with zero hits and one strikeout.
 
Jason Padlo was perfect from the plate, going 4-for-4 with one run while Jacob Bernardy finished with two RBIs.

The Broncos head out for their first road games of the year tomorrow, as they travel to Irvine, Calif., for a double-header with Concordia-Irvine.
