LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona baseball split the four-game series with Cal State Los Angeles, losing both games of the doubleheader, 12-7 and 3-2, Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Broncos picked up the first two wins in the series and now sit at 13-10 overall on the season and 9-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Game 1: CPP 7, CSULA 12
CPP had a quick start in game one, opening the first inning with two runs after a triple by
Jason Padlo brought in
Chris Stratton followed by a single by
Daniel Pitts.
Kyle Dohy started on the mound for the Broncos, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing five earned runs with six hits, six walks and nine strikeouts.
With CSULA holding a 6-3 lead, the Broncos kept things interesting by scoring three more runs in the seventh inning to tie the game.
Cody Martin hit an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch while Stratton also crossed the plate due a wild pitch.
Padlo finished with two hits and RBIs while Stratton, Pitts and
Bryce Graddy also totaled two hits each.
The Golden Eagles sealed the victory after answering with four runs in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Game 2: CPP 2, CSULA 3
The second game of the day saw much less offense as CSULA did all their damage in one inning, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
With the game scoreless through four innings of play, Pitts got the Broncos on the board first with a solo homerun in the fifth.
Henry Omana was the starting pitcher for CPP as he threw six innings with five hits, two earned runs and eight strikeouts.
The Eagles hit a solo homer for their first run before a two-RBI triple gave them a 3-1 lead heading into the final inning.
The Broncos will take a break from CCAA South Division play as they travel for a road series at Chico State next weekend.
