POMONA, Calif. – In a difficult return to Scolinos Field, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team dropped both games of the doubleheader with Stanislaus State on Saturday afternoon, losing 14-7 and 4-2.
The Broncos combined for 10 errors in both games, committing six errors in the first matchup, as they move to 14-14 overall on the season and 10-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Game One: CPP 7, STAN 14
The Warriors scored early and often in game one of the series, starting the first inning with three runs.
After CPP answered in the second inning by scoring three runs of their own, led by
Chris Stratton with a two-RBI single, Stanislaus scored another run in the third inning before adding five more runs in the fourth.
Frankie Nogales was the star at the plate for the Broncos, tallying three hits including two home runs and three RBIs.
Cody Martin also had three hits followed by
Jacob Bernardy with two hits while
Daniel Pitts earned a double with one RBI.
Game Two: CPP 2, STAN 4
Stanislaus State had another quick start in game two, recording two runs in the second inning to hold to the lead for the remainder of the day.
The Broncos' first score game in the fourth inning as a single by Pitts brought in
Brennan McKenzie from second base.
Henry Omana started on the mound for the Broncos, throwing five innings with only one earned run, five hits, and six strikeouts. Pitching in relief was
Wyatt Shackleford who finished the remaining four innings with only three hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.
CPP's only other score game in the same way as their first, this time in the eighth inning as Pitts once again singled to bring in McKenzie. Pitts finished with three hits while McKenzie had one hit and a walk.
The Broncos will close out the series with the Warriors tomorrow with game three set for 11 a.m. at Scolinos Field.
