STOCKTON, Calif. – Going extra innings in back-to-back games, the No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona baseball team wasn't able to come out on top the second time around, falling to No. 1 Chico State 8-7 after 10 innings.
The loss is the first for the Broncos in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Postseason Tournament. CPP will wait the results of No. 3 UC San Diego vs. No. 6 CSU Los Angeles to find out their next opponent in tonight's game.
The Wildcats got things started in the opening inning with a solo home run and a fielder's choice to take a quick 2-0 lead. Chico followed that up with another run in the third with a sacrifice bunt to just ahead 3-0.
CPP's bats came alive in the fourth inning, scoring four runs to take the lead from the top-seeded Wildcats.

Bryce Graddy worked a five-pitch walk with the bases loaded. Down by only one run,
Chris Stratton drilled a ball to the shortstop who could make a clean throw, score two more runs for the Broncos.
Kyle Dohy was the starting pitcher for CPP, tossing seven innings with four earned runs off of four hits with eight strikeouts.
In the very next inning,
Jason Padlo added to the Broncos' lead with a two-run blast to left field, giving CPP a 6-3 advantage.
Hernandez once again led the Broncos with three hits while Padlo, Pitts and
Frankie Nogales each recorded two hits.
Down 7-4, Chico State sent the game to extras, scoring three runs in the eighth before bunting a runner home from third in the 10
th inning to take the win.
The winner of tonight's game, set for 8:05 p.m., will face off against Chico State in two games on Saturday for the conference tournament title.
