AZUSA, Calif. – After losing to Chico State 8-7 in extra innings just six days ago, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team turned the tide in their opening NCAA DII West Regional Tournament game, defeating the top-seeded Wildcats 8-7 in 10 innings at the Cougar Baseball Complex.
After falling behind 1-0 in the third inning, the Broncos got their bats going in the fifth as
Chris Stratton singled to score
Brennan McKenzie for the tie, followed by a bases-loaded balk by Chico State's Casey Costello to give CPP the 2-1 advantage.
The Broncos scored in four straight innings with an RBI double by McKenzie in the sixth, a solo home run by
Jacob Bernardy in the seventh, and finally three runs in the eighth with another RBI double by McKenzie and a two-RBI home run by

Wyatt Shackleford who picked up his third win of the season, tossing two innings.
The Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with one out and the winning run only 90 feet away. Chico's Casey Henderson, who tallied three hits on the day, drilled a ball back to the pitcher, hitting the mound as the ball flew to
Bryce Graddy who stepped on second before throwing to first, turning the double-play to send the game into extra innings.
In the 10
th, Nogales opened the inning with a single to left field.
Matt Manskar entered a pinch runner, advancing to second after a sacrifice bunt by Graddy. Advancing to third on a ground out, Manskar crossed home plate for the winning run after an RBI-single by Stratton to give the Broncos an 8-7 lead.
