Broncos Pick Up First CCAA Win, Defeat SFSU 3-1

SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team bounced back on Saturday night, picking up their first California Collegiate Athletic Association win of the season as they defeated San Francisco State 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 25-27, 25-18) to split their opening weekend of conference play.
 
Andrea Bosnic led the Broncos (5-5, 1-1 CCAA) with a match high 13 kills, tallying her fifth double-digit kill night of the season. Following her was Jenna Goldsberry who had her most efficient night of the season, collecting 10 kills on 18 swings.
 
Tied 17-17 in the opening set, CPP scored three straight points to pull away before closing out the set with three more consecutive points, taking an early lead in sets.
 
Desi Martin totaled nine kills while adding 10 total blocks on the night while Ally Wilder finished with five blocks of her own along with four kills.
 
As a team, CPP finished with an attacking percentage of .235, holding the Gators to a percentage of .189.
 
In the second set of the night, the Broncos held San Francisco State to a hitting percentage of only .097 while boasting a percentage of .333 of their own. After jumping out to a 7-2 lead, CPP secured the set victory with a 10-2 run midway through to earn a 2-0 advantage.
 
Alina Smith finished with night with 24 assists, collecting her fifth 20-plus assist night of the season. In the back row, Alexandria Bollier totaled eight digs while Bosnic and Smith finished with seven and six respectively.
 
In the fourth and final set of the night, CPP once again strung together a series of points, breaking away from a 9-11 deficit with seven straight points before winning 25-18.
 
The Broncos continue conference action next weekend as they hold their home opener in Kellogg Arena after 10 straight matches on the road on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
