POMONA – It was an up and down night for the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team as they battled to a fifth set against Cal State Monterey Bay before losing 3-2 (25-19, 19-25, 24-26, 25-20, and 15-8) at Kellogg Arena on Friday.
The loss moves the Broncos to 5-6 overall on the year and 1-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
CPP opened the night with a strong performance in the set, tallying 18 kills with a hitting percentage of .200.
Andrea Bosnic and
Alexandra Gresham led the Broncos with 14 kills each while
Jenna Goldsberry tallied 11 kills on the night. Splitting the role at setter,
Kay Powell finished with 27 assists as
Alina Smith collected 26 assists against the Otters.
Falling behind 2-1, the Broncos battled in the fourth set, earning 16 kills off of 38 attempts for a hitting percentage of .316, winning 25-20 and forcing the fifth and final set.
Three Broncos finished with double-digit digs as Bosnic led the team with 16 and
Alexandria Bollier and
Samantha Figueroa collected 12 digs each.
In the fifth set, the Broncos fell behind 3-1 early and were unable to claim the lead before losing 15-8 to end the night. Errors remained a major factor in the match as the Otters committed 21 errors to 33 from CPP.
The Broncos will get back on the court Saturday night as they take on CCAA opponent Cal State East Bay at 7 p.m. at Kellogg Arena.
