Broncos Set for First Weekend at Home

POMONA – After starting the year with 10 straight road matches, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team will finally host their home opener of the 2017 season, as they take on Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay this weekend.

Last Week: The Broncos (5-5, 1-1 CCAA) split their first weekend of conference play, falling to Sonoma State in three sets before defeating San Francisco State 3-1. Alina Smith finished with a team-high 24 assists in the win over the Gators
 
By the Numbers: Andrea Bosnic leads CPP in total kills this season, recording 104 through the first 10 matches with an average of 2.89 kills per set. Samantha Figueroa has been a force in the backline for the Broncos, tallying the second highest digs per set average in the CCAA at 4.72.
 
As a team, the Broncos rank fourth overall in assists with 12.06 assists per set and sixth overall in kills (12.81/set).
 
Otters Report: CSU Monterey Bay enters Kellogg Arena on Friday with a 7-3 overall record, going 1-1 in conference play. This will be the second time the Otters face CPP this season, after earning a 3-0 nonconference win earlier in the year at the Otter Classic. CSUMB leads the conference in hitting percentage at .280, kills at (13.91/set) and in aces with 2.13/set.
 
Pioneers Report: East Bay is off to a quick start in 2017, posting an 8-2 record with a perfect opening weekend of CCAA play (2-0). Picked to finish third overall in the North Division of the CCAA Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Pioneers will look to avenge a 1-3 loss at home against the Broncos in the 2016 season. CSUEB holds the third highest hitting percentage (.235) while holding their opponents to the sixth lowest average at .191.
