POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball found themselves on the wrong end of another five-set match, losing to Cal State San Marcos 3-2 (22-25, 28-26, 25-17, 19-25, and 13-15) in Kellogg Arena on Friday night.
The loss moves the Broncos to 6-7 overall on the year while going 2-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
After dropping the first set, the Broncos fought back in the second set to tie the match. CPP used a 7-3 run to take a 13-12 lead in the set before score six of the last eight points in the match.
Jenna Goldsberry hit a career high 16 kills for the Broncos while
Andrea Bosnic finished with 13 and
Alexandra Gresham and
Desi Martin both tallied nine kills.
The Broncos had their most dominating performance in set three of the night, earning a .278 hitting percentage. CPP jumped out to a 7-3 lead and held on to the lead for the remainder of the set as they jumped ahead 2-1.
Alina Smith finished with 33 assists while
Kalea Vizmanos finished with a season high 16 assists. Four Broncos finished with double digit totals in digs with
Alexandria Bollier leading the way with 21. Following her was
Samantha Figueroa with 16 digs, Bosnic with 13 and Goldsberry with 12.
The Broncos finished with their two worse hitting percentages in the final two sets and they combined for 18 total errors as San Marcos completed the comeback.
The Broncos return to Kellogg Field tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 30 as they take on UC San Diego at 7 p.m.
