SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball defeated Holy Names in dominating fashion, winning in three sets (25-16, 25-11, 25-18) on day two of the NCAA DII West Region Volleyball Showcase.
With their second win in a row, the Broncos improve to 3-3 on the season and remain undefeated at the regional showcase.
Andrea Bosnic and
Ally Wilder led CPP with seven kills each while
Chloe Fields-Owens tallied six kills. Nava led with a .636 attacking percentage, connecting on 11 swings.
The Broncos closed out the first set on a six-point streak, sealing the 25-16 opening set win. In set two, CPP held Holy Names to a -.229 hitting percentage as they cruised to a 2-0 lead, winning set two 25-11.
Alina Smith totaled a match-high 18 assists while
Samantha Figueroa also finished with a match-high, collecting 19 digs in the back row.
Holy Names jumped out to an early lead in the third set, leading 15-14. The Broncos secured the win, ending the match on an 11-3 run for their first sweep of the season.
As a team, the Broncos posted a .192 hitting percentage while holding Holy Names to a -.037 hitting percentage on the night.
The Broncos play two matches on Saturday, Sept. 9, to close out the showcase, facing the University of Hawaii at Hilo at noon and Biola University at 5 p.m.
