Broncos Can't Complete Comeback, Fall to Chico State 76-65

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team fell just short of the comeback on Saturday night, losing to Chico State 76-65 on the road, snapping a five-game win streak.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    Both teams traded points to start the game working towards a 13-10 advantage for Chico State midway through the first half of play.
-    The Wildcats broke away from CPP using a 13-5 run, before heading into the break with a 39-26 lead.
-    CPP shot 45 percent on the night while Chico managed a shooting percentage of 48 percent.
-    The Wildcats earned 32 free throw attempts, sinking 25 attempts.
-    After falling behind by 14 points, the Broncos continued to fight climbing back into the game in the second half.
-    Using a 12-5 run, CPP cut Chico's lead to only three points, 64-61, with just under five minutes to play.
-    The Broncos couldn't overcome the deficit as Chico managed another run to seal the victory down the stretch.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Jordan Ogundiran led the Broncos offensively, tallying 17 points, adding four rebounds and two steals.
-    Jeff Nibo, Phoenix Shackelford, and William Christmas each finished with nine points while Christmas added a team-high five rebounds.
-    Christmas also finished with a team-high in assists with four along with two steals.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    Saturday was CPP's first loss in nearly a month, ending a streak of five wins in a row.
-    Chico State avenged a double-overtime loss to the Broncos at Kellogg Arena earlier in the season.
-    Despite the loss, the Broncos remain in first-place in the CCAA standings holding a 9-2 record in conference play.

CPP returns to Kellogg Arena next weekend as they face off against Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Los Angeles beginning on Thursday, Jan. 18.
