25th-Ranked Broncos Sneak Past East Bay 60-58

HAYWARD – The 25th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team edged out Cal State East Bay late to win 60-58 on the road, remaining in first-place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    Both teams were evenly matched throughout the night, trading points back and forth.
-    The Broncos built an early 6-point lead before the Pioneers climbed back to regain the lead themselves.
-    Tied 25-25, East Bay used a 6-0 run before draining a three to take a 34-27 lead into halftime.
-    The Broncos offense was efficient for most of the night, finishing with a field goal percentage of 46 percent. CPP's defense held the Pioneers to 37 percent shooting on the night, including a 16 percent mark from the three-point range.
-    East Bay held a lead for a majority of the second half, with CPP tying the game 48-48 with 6:44 on the clock.
-    The Broncos regained the lead for the first time since the first half after Quentin Taylor hit a jumper to go ahead 59-58 with 45 seconds to play.
-    East Bay had one last attempt for the win, missing a last-second three-pointer, as the Broncos took the road win.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Freshman Phoenix Shackelford finished as the point leader for the Broncos, registering 10 points along with three rebounds and two assists.
-    William Christmas and Chris Sullivan each finished with nine points and six rebounds while Riley Schaefer also added nine points.
-    Jordan Ogundiran tallied seven points and five rebounds against East Bay.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    The Broncos picked up their third straight win as they look to secure a home playoff game.
-    Ranked for the first time this season by the NABC, the Broncos entered the weekend ranked 25th overall in Division II.
