Last Second Layup Sinks Broncos in Seaside

SEASIDE – With a late fourth-quarter run by the Otters, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team fell to Cal State Monterey Bay 50-49 on the road on Saturday.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    The Broncos jumped out to a quick start against the Otters, leading by 12 points with just under two minutes to go in the first quarter.
-    CPP shot 56 percent in the first half as they took a 32-24 lead into halftime.
-    The Broncos outrebounded CSUMB 40-31 while scoring 16 points off turnovers.
-    Down 41-28 in the third quarter, the Otters began to make their run, scoring a three in the last minute of the quarter to head to the fourth down 41-31.
-    CSUMB scored 13 straight before taking a 44-42 lead with 4:18 left to play.
-    The Broncos took a one-point lead before a last-second layup gave the Otters the victory.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    For the second night in a row, Chelsea Waddy-Blow led the Broncos with 15 points while grabbing six rebounds in the process.
-    Priscilla Brooks finished with a team-high in rebounds with seven and in steals with four while tallying 14 points.
-    Casey McWilliam added seven points while Jackie Ricketson and Dominique Dotson each finished with five points.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    Tonight's loss was the first time the Broncos have lost back to back conference games since the start of the 2015-16 season.
-    Despite the loss, CPP remains in second-place in the CCAA standings in a tie with Humboldt State.

COMING UP NEXT:
The Broncos return to Kellogg Arena next Thursday, Feb. 1, as they host Stanislaus State.
