Benton and Broncos Sink Stanislaus with 77-57 Victory

POMONA - The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team bounced back on Thursday night, downing Stanislaus State 77-57 at Kellogg Arena, holding on to their second-place spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    CPP's dominant first quarter set the tone for the game as the Broncos used an 11-0 run to take a 26-8 lead after the opening period.
-    The Broncos kept their lead in double-digits through the second quarter, going ahead by as much as 20 before taking a 43-28 advantage into halftime.
-    Stanislaus State was held to a mark of 22 percent from the field, including a mark of 17 percent from three-point range.
-    The Broncos shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, going 12-for-24.
-    CPP took their largest lead of the game with just over three minutes to play, leading by 28-points, to seal the victory.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Alyssa Benton capped off the night with a season-high 22 points, shooting 6-of-8 from three-point range.
-    Chelsea Waddy-Blow finished with a double-double, tallying 13 points while collecting 10 boards against the Warriors.
-    Casey McWilliam added 11 points as Jackie Ricketson notched season highs in rebounds (14) and assists (9) along with six points.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    The win secures the Broncos' position in second place in the conference standings after holding a tie with Humboldt State in CCAA wins.
-    CPP evens the season series against the Warriors after falling in their first matchup on the road earlier this year.
-    Benton's 22-points was the third time this season she broke the double-digit mark in scoring this season.

COMING UP NEXT:
The Broncos remain at home next week as they host Cal State San Marcos on Tuesday, Feb. 6, before traveling to play UC San Diego on the following Friday as San Marcos again on Saturday.
