#24 Broncos Outlast Host Tritons In Four Sets

LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Andrea Bosnic pounded 20 kills and Desi Martin scored a career-high 15 kills to lift the 24th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team to a grueling 3-1 win over host UC San Diego Saturday night to capture the Sixth Annual Reis Cup at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla.  Set scores were 25-23, 19-25, 28-26, 25-15.  The Reis Cup honors former UCSD Triton volleyball player Karen Reis, who passed away tragically in 2012.

The Broncos improve to 16-3 overall and 9-2 in the CCAA.  The Tritons stumble to 6-10, 2-8 CCAA.

Bosnic was named the Sixth Annual Reis Cup Most Valuable Player after tallying her 20 kills, which was one shy of matching her career-best.  She hit .341 and also added 15 digs in the process.  Martin enjoyed her own career-best night, sporting a fiery .414 hitting percentage with her aforementioned 15 kills.  Jenna Goldsberry posted 10 kills to round out the three Broncos with double-digit kills on the night.  Kira Zimmerman set the offense with 49 assists, and defensively, Alex Bollier led the way with 25 digs.

After a narrow 25-23 win in the first set, the Broncos suffered a 25-19 loss in the second set to knot the match at 1-1.  The Tritons also dug deep in the third set, pushing CPP to the brink, but the Green and Gold outlasted UCSD 28-26 to take a 2-1 match lead before cruising to the 25-15 match-clinching win in the fourth stanza.

Cal Poly Pomona returns home Friday to open a five-match homestand, it will also be the final five home matches of the 2018 season.  Friday's matchup pits the Broncos with the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, Cal State San Bernardino.  First serve is set for 7:00 pm in Kellogg Arena.
