PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Eduardo Faria broke a scoreless tie in the 56th minute to make it 1-0, but the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team surrendered the equalizer five minutes later, then the golden goal in the fifth minute of overtime to fall 2-1 to No. 23 West Chester in the semifinals of the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championships at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Broncos see their season come to an end at 17-7-0. The Golden Rams (16-2-5) advance to Saturday's National Championship match against Barry.
The Golden Rams got the Golden Goal in the first overtime period from Jason Pixley, who headed it in from close. There wasn't anything Bronco goalie
Jakob Hansen could do.
Cal Poly Pomona dominated possession in the first half, but West Chester goalie Will Marshall had the answers.
Faria's goal at 55:17 lifted Cal Poly Pomona to a 1-0 lead but West Chester freshman Eric Greer tied it moments later with a kick from deep after a corner attempt was headed out beyond the box.
The teams played evenly the rest of regulation, and overtime started the same way, but Pixley's heroics came just one possession after Marshall made yet another save.
Cal Poly Pomona outshot West Chester, 15-10, in the contest, and led 8-3 in corner kicks. Hansen made two saves for the Broncos in his final intercollegiate game.
