Chico Clips #8 Broncos In CCAA Home Opener

POMONA -- Jordan Ogundiran led all players with 19 points and William Christmas added 18, but despite forcing 20 turnovers, the eighth-ranked Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team came up short against Chico State, 70-66, on Saturday night at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.

The Broncos, who played just their second home game of the season, fell to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA.  The Wildcats improve to 4-3 overall (3-3 CCAA).

After trailing for much of the contest, CPP rallied from a 13-point deficit with 16:43 to go in the second half to tie the ballgame up at 66-66 on the first of two free throws from Christmas with 45 seconds left on the clock, but he would miss his second attempt and Chico State went on to score the final four points of the night to complete the upset Cal Poly Pomona.

Ogundiran and Christmas were the only Broncos that scored in double-figures.  Phoenix Shackelford came off the bench to add eight points as CPP's third-leading scorer.  Meanwhile, Chico had four players score double-digit points, led by the 17 from Malik Duffy.  Isaiah Brooks (13 points), Nate Ambrosini (12) and Kevin Warren (10) each came away with at least 10 points for the Wildcats, who shot 48.1 percent from the floor on 25 of 52 shooting, including 11 three-pointers.  CPP was held to 41 percent from the floor on 25 of 61, including just 3 of 13 (23.1 percent) from beyond the arc .

Cal Poly Pomona returns to the hardwood one final time in 2018, hosting Humboldt State on Monday at 4:00 pm in Kellogg Arena.
