Ogundiran Adds To Milestone In Victory At SSU

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Jordan Ogundiran, who eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in his career last Saturday, continued to add to his four-year point total, pouring in 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the floor to pace the No. 13 Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team to a 75-62 victory over host Sonoma State on Saturday afternoon at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.

The Broncos rise to 4-1 overall (2-1 in the CCAA) and the Seawolves fall to 5-4 (3-2 CCAA).

The opening 10 minutes of action went back and forth, but also saw the hosts take an early five-point lead at the 13-minute mark, but that would be the largest lead of the afternoon by Sonoma.  The Broncos chipped away, and with 8:51 left in the opening half, a three-ball by Ogundiran gave CPP the lead for good.

The Seawolves did pull within a point at 30-29 right at the beginning of the second stanza, and even kept it close at 44-41 with 12 minutes to play, but CPP outscored SSU 31-20 over the next 10 minutes to put the game out of reach, all without the help of Ogundiran, who scored his team-high 19 points by the 12:41 mark left in the contest.  The Broncos got scoring contributions from seven different players not named Ogundiran down the stretch, led by eight from Riley Schaefer, who ended with 14 in total.  Phoenix Shackelford had 12 points and William Christmas added 10 point, five assists, five rebounds and four assists.

CPP was on fire from the hardwood, connecting on 29 of 54 attempts for a success rate of 53.7 percent, all while holding SSU to just 16 of 50 (32.0 percent).

Sonoma was led by the 14 points of Jordan Hickman.

Cal Poly Pomona will wrap up its five-game road trip on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at Cal State San Marcos.  Tipoff is set for 5:00 pm.
