Stanislaus State Ends Winning Streak for CPP

POMONA – A second-half run by Stanislaus State became too much for the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team as they fell to the Warriors 62-58 at Kellogg Arena on Thursday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association matchup. 


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    The night started strong for CPP as they built an early 23-16 lead with just over eight minutes to play in the first half.
-    The Broncos continued to add to their lead as they went into halftime with an 11-point advantage, leading 36-25.
-    Stanislaus State opened the second half with an 11-0 run, gaining their first lead since the midway through the first half.
-    After shooting nearly 52 percent in the first half, the Broncos managed a mark of only 23 percent from the field in the second half as Stanislaus continued to pull ahead.
-    The Warriors held on to the lead for the final 14 minutes of play, building an 11-point lead.
-    The Broncos climbed their way to within three points of Stanislaus but couldn't overcome the slow start to the second half.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Jordan Ogundiran and William Christmas each finished with 12 points for the Broncos while Christmas added seven rebounds.
-    Phoenix Shackelford tallied eight points while Riley Schaefer finished with a team-high nine rebounds.
-    Chris Sullivan contributed seven points and five rebounds as well.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    The loss snaps the Broncos' four-game winning streak, their first loss since Jan. 13 at Chico State.
-    Stanislaus evened the season series against CPP, as both teams collecting the win on the road with CPP winning earlier this year.
-    Despite the loss, the Broncos still remain in first in the CCAA standings, owning two more wins than UC San Diego.

COMING UP NEXT:
The Broncos remain at home next week as they host Cal State San Marcos on Tuesday, Feb. 6, before traveling to play UC San Diego on the following Friday as San Marcos again on Saturday.
