Broncos Clinch Home Playoff Game with 64-51 Win Over Sonoma State

POMONA - The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team clinched a home playoff game on Friday, defeating Sonoma State 64-51 at Kellogg Arena.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    The Broncos opened the game with an early 13-6 advantage but quickly saw that disappear as Sonoma State used a 19-2 run to go up by double digits, 25-15.
-    CPP chipped away at the lead throughout the first half, heading into the locker room down only 28-26.
-    The Seawolves edged out CPP in shooting percentage 44 percent to 41 percent while the Broncos got to the free throw line frequently in the contest, finishing 20-of-28 from the line.
-    CPP regained the lead for the first time since the seventh minute mark in the first half after quick scores from Quentin Taylor and Jordan Ogundiran.
-    The Broncos held Sonoma State scoreless through the first seven minutes of the second half as they took their largest lead at 47-33 with just over eight minutes to play.
-    CPP continued to answer SSU, holding a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game to improve to 10-3 at home.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    For the fifth time this season, Ogundiran tallied 20-plus points as he finished with 21 points on the night along with four assists and two boards.
-    Riley Schaefer added 11 points and seven rebounds as he finished3-for-5 from three-point range.
-    William Christmas totaled 10 points while Chris Sullivan collected a team-high eight rebounds.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    The Broncos hold a 1.5 game lead over both Chico State and Cal State San Marcos. No matter the results, CPP can't finish lower than fourth, clinching a home playoff game when the CCAA kicks off their post season tournament on Feb. 27.

The Broncos continue their final regular-season homestand tomorrow night as they host San Francisco State University at Kellogg Arena with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.Â
