Broncos Claim Share of Regular Season Title with Victory Over San Francisco State

POMONA - Defeating San Francisco State 75-62 on Saturday, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team earned at least a share of the 2017-18 California Collegiate Athletic Association Regular Season Title with one game left to play in the season.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    As both teams traded off scoring, the Broncos held a slight advantage over San Francisco State, leading 19-13 after a three-pointer by Nikhil Peters midway through the first half.
-    CPP took their largest lead of the first half with just over a minute to play as a layup by Riley Schaefer made it 33-18.
-    The Gators finished the first half with a 7-0 run to close the gap heading into the locker room down 33-25.
-    CPP finished extremely efficient from the field, shooting 56 percent overall on the night while going 9-of-15 from beyond the arc.
-    In the second half, the Broncos continued to answer the Gators, using a 22-8 run in the middle of the half to take their largest lead of the night at 63-41.
-    San Francisco State continued to fight back, coming within 13 points of the Broncos but couldn't overcome the deficit as CPP completed the season sweep.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Four Broncos scored in double-digits with Quentin Taylor leading the way with 15 points.
-    William Christmas tallied 13 points, seven rebounds along with four assists while Jordan Ogundiran and Schaefer each finished with 10 points.
-    Daylan Lawrence added seven points and four rebounds while Chris Sullivan collected five boards.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    Sitting at first-place in the conference standings and already clinching a home playoff game with last night's win, the Broncos hold a share of the regular season championship with the opportunity to win it outright with a victory in the final regular season game of the year.

COMING UP NEXT:
The Broncos close out the regular season next weekend on Saturday, Feb. 24 as they host Cal State San Bernardino on Senior Night.
