LA JOLLA- The 23rd-ranked Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team got back on the winning side of things on Friday, defeating UC San Diego 80-69 on the road.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Â Â The Broncos opened the first half quickly, taking an 11-5 lead before two big runs made it 36-17 with 3:27 to play.
- Â Â UCSD closed out the half with a 7-0 run of their own to go into the break down 36-24.
- Â Â The second half started out strong for the Tritons as they made four threes in a run that tied the game 41-41 with just over 15 minutes to play.
- Â Â CPP edged out UCSD in rebounds 32-30 while totaling 10 second-chance points and 21 points off of Triton mistakes.
- Â Â The Broncos also outshot UCSD, finishing with a field goal percentage of 47 percent compared to 41 percent from the Tritons.
- Â Â Things settled down for CPP as they used an 18-7 run to break the tie and regain control of the game.
- Â Â UCSD climbed back to within seven points but couldn't overcome the deficit as the Broncos nailed four free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
KEY PERFORMERS:Â
- Â Â Leading the Broncos offense was
Jordan Ogundiran and
Quentin Taylor who each finished with 18 points.
- Â Â Ogunidran also tallied a team-high nine rebounds along with six assists.
- Â Â
Phoenix Shackelford tallied 14 points in the process while
Nikhil Peters added eight points.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:Â
- Â Â Along with CPP's win, Cal State San Marcos lost to Cal State San Bernardino, launching the Broncos back to first-place in the CCAA standings.

The Broncos will conclude their road trip tomorrow night, Saturday, Feb. 10, as they take on Cal State San Marcos in a rematch from Tuesday's game earlier this week.
