Lobe Named CPP's Sports Information Director

POMONA – Cal Poly Pomona Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Brian Swanson announced Monday the hiring of Tyler Lobe as the Sports Information Director. Lobe comes to Cal Poly Pomona after a nine-year stint in Sports Information and Game Operations at fellow California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) institution Sonoma State.

"Tyler is a highly respected professional throughout the CCAA and CoSIDA," Swanson said. "He continues to be innovative through a wide range of media platforms and his creativity will highlight the accomplishments of our student-athletes and coaches while promoting our brand and identity as we move our program forward. We are excited about Tyler joining our Broncos' team!"

In his time at Sonoma State, Lobe began in August of 2009 as the Sports Information Coordinator, eventually taking over the head SID role while overseeing all aspects of Game and Event Operations two years later, before being promoted to a Lead Operations position in March. In addition to his full-time responsibilities at SSU, Lobe simultaneously served as the Women's Sports Information Director for the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) between 2014 and 2017.

"I am absolutely thrilled to join the Cal Poly Pomona family," said Lobe. "Coming from an institution that plays within the same conference as CPP, I have seen the Broncos enjoy nothing but success in not only competition, but in the classroom and in the community as well. I am incredibly honored and humbled to be presented with an opportunity to join - and promote - a first-class intercollegiate program such as the one here at CPP."

Tyler has been a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) organization since 2006 and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of America (NACDA) since 2009, and also spent three years as a voting member on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) West Regional Poll. He has also coordinated the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-West Region Awards program since 2012.

A native of Auburn, Wash., Lobe holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, specializing in Broadcast Journalism, from Central Washington University (CWU) in Ellensburg, Wash. While at CWU, he worked for four years as a student assistant in the Athletic Media Relations office serving as the main contact for women's soccer and assisting with the sports information and media relations needs of the 10 other intercollegiate sport programs. It was there that Lobe gained first-hand experience in the spring of 2008 facilitating interview requests from local, regional and national media outlets when two CWU softball student-athletes carried an injured opponent around the bases following a home run, an inspirational moment featured here by ESPN, one that earned an ESPY Award several months later.

On the academic side at CWU, Lobe co-hosted a sports talk radio show -- The Sports Den -- for 88.1 FM The 'Burg every Monday and Friday morning, and was instrumental in helping with the creation of "Coffee With The Coaches," a live weekly interview session with student-athletes and coaches from the CWU athletic department, which aired live from a local coffee shop each Friday morning.

In the summer of 2008, Lobe also worked as an intern for the Seattle Mariners in the Baseball Information Department helping to generate press releases, produce game day information for the press box, assisting with various pages in the team's media guide and compiling statistical packets for daily distribution to the Mariners' clubhouse.

Lobe is married to his wife Megan. They have two boys, Carson (2) and Nolan (four months).
