IRVINE, Calif. -- Jimmie Villalobos and Cyro Oliveira teamed up to provide the offense -- twice -- but with the score tied late in regulation, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team surrendered a breakaway goal to host Concordia-Irvine in the 89th minute which eventually held up as the game-winner in Wednesday's 3-2 defeat at Eagles Field in Irvine.  The Broncos fall to 1-3 on the year.  The Eagles got their first win of 2018, rising to 1-3.

Though the final score favored Concordia-Irvine, Cal Poly Pomona had the upper hand throughout the contest, outshooting the Eagles 19-7, including a 10-3 margin in the second half.  Villalobos got the scoring started in the 14th minute after a pass from Oliveira for the 1-0 lead.  Less than two minutes later, CUI evened the score thanks to a goal by Connor Gordon in the 16th minute.  Then, a minute, 10 seconds following his first goal of the season, Gordon connected again for the hosts, putting the Eagles up 2-1 in a blink of an eye.

It wasn't until the 58th minute that Villalobos again found netting off a pass from Oliveira to knot the match at 2-2.

With overtime looming, Concordia-Irvine found themselves on a breakaway deep in CPP territory, and with 1:25 remaining before the end of regulation, Elijah Amadin fired a shot past Broncos netminder Jakob Hansen for the go-ahead score.  

Villalobos (five shots) and Oliveira (four shots) accounted for nine of the 19 shots taken by CPP.  Hansen made two saves between the pipes.  His counterpart, Concordia-Irvine's Mackenzie Hutchins, made four stops.

Cal Poly Pomona returns home Saturday for its final non-conference tilt of the season, hosting Notre Dame de Namur at 7:00 pm.  The Broncos will then kickoff CCAA action next Wednesday at Cal State San Bernardino.
