POMONA -- The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team held a 17-5 advantage in shots, but had to settle for the 0-0 tie with visiting San Francisco State on a warm Sunday afternoon at Kellogg Stadium in Pomona. The Broncos move to 4-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the CCAA while the Gators also go to 4-3-1 overall (2-1-1 in conference play).
CPP had an early opportunity to break the tie when
Samantha Putnam was brought down in the box by a SF State defender just 6:41 into the contest, warranting a penalty kick. Putnam stepped up and fired a shot low and to the left, but SFSU's keeper Nicki Rucki also went diving in the same direction and knocked the ball away to keep the game scoreless. Rucki went on to make seven more saves on the day to record the shutout.
Ally LaCarra-Platt saw her chance to possibly give the Broncos the lead, but her attempt in the 78th minute banged off the crossbar.
Broncos goalkeeper
Sydney Williams also posted a shutout, her fourth of the season, making two saves on the other end of the field.
Cal Poly Pomona will return to action Friday, hosting Stanislaus State at 4:30 pm at Kellogg Stadium.
