Monstrous 2nd Half Lifts Broncos Over Otters

POMONA -- Mylah Andrada scored a season-best 17 points, 15 coming from three-point range as the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team rallied from a 16-point deficit early in the third quarter to capture a 61-55 victory over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday night at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.

The Broncos (12-2 overall) have won five straight, rising to 8-1 in the CCAA.  The Otters, meanwhile, suffered their 20th straight loss dating back to last season, falling to 0-14 overall and 0-10 in conference play this year.

It was a tale of two halves for both teams as the Otters statistically dominated in the first half while the Broncos turned it around in the second half.  In the first 20 minutes, CSUMB connected on 12 of 26 from the floor for a 46.2 percent clip, all while holding CPP to just 8 of 22 (36.3 percent).  After halftime, it was the Broncos to hit nearly half of their 33 shots at a rate of 48.5 percent as the Otters made just 7 of 22 (31.8 percent).

CSUMB jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first three minutes of the contest and remained in the lead until Andrada nailed a three-pointer with 6:01 left in the game to give CPP its first lead of the night at 47-46.  Both teams traded scoring possessions down the stretch until the Broncos were able to take the lead for good on a Monica Todd layup with 1:46 remaining before holding on for the six-point win.

Complementing Andrada's double-digit scoring effort was Dominique Dotson's 13 points, all of which she scored in the second half.  The team finished shooting at a 43.6 percent clip (24 of 55).  The Otters ended at 39.6 percent for the evening (19 of 48) as Camille Parker and Jordana Price ended with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Cal Poly Pomona will hit the road for a brief two-game road trip, starting with a Thursday night tilt at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson.  Tipoff from the Torodome is set for 5:30 pm.
