CARSON, Calif. -- Four Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball players scored in double-figures and the defense held Cal State Dominguez Hills to just 25.7 percent shooting, the lowest percentage for a CPP opponent since last February, en route to a convincing 68-57 victory Thursday night at the Torodome in Carson.
The Broncos have won six straight contests, rising to 13-2 overall and 9-1 in the CCAA. The Toros, meanwhile, fall to 7-9 (3-7 CCAA).
The ballgame was never in doubt, especially after Cal Poly Pomona outscored CSUDH 19-5 in the third quarter alone to take a 54-31 lead into the final 10-minute session of the evening. In fact, the Broncos' stifling defense not only allowed the Toros to make just 19 shots out of its 74 attempts, but they also surrendered just one three pointer in the game to CSUDH (out of 15). The last time CPP held an opponent to just a single three-pointer was back on Dec. 19, 2015 against Central Washington (CWU went 1-10 from long range in that game).
Offensively, CPP hit on 40.3 percent of its shots (25 for 62), but was outrebounded 61-42, including 32-12 on the offensive glass.
Monica Todd led the way for the Broncos with 14 points and 12 rebounds while
Kasey Smit,
Dominique Dotson and
Jordyn Shane each chipped in with 10 points apiece.
For the Toros, Ahlisha Henderson carried the bulk of the CSUDH offense on Thursday, pouring in a game-high 27 points and corralling 20 rebounds, 10 on each side of the ball.
Cal Poly Pomona will take on Cal State L.A. in Los Angeles Saturday at 1:00 pm before returning back home to host Sonoma State next Thursday at 5:30 pm in Kellogg Arena.
