SEASIDE, Calif. -- The 21st-ranked Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team continued its winning ways, sprinting past host Cal State Monterey Bay, 85-65, on Thursday evening at the Otter Sports Center in Seaside.
The Broncos (17-2) have won 10 straight, moving to 13-1 in the CCAA, still one game behind undefeated UC San Diego (18-0, 14-0 CCAA) for the top spot in the conference standings. The Otters remain winless this season at 0-17 (0-14 CCAA).
Entering the contest at No. 21 in the D2SIDA Women's Basketball National Media Poll, the Broncos left no doubt against the Otters, leading from nearly start to finish. After holding a narrow 16-15 lead after one period of play, CPP outscored CSUMB 43-26 over the next two quarters and eventually extended its lead to as much as 23 at 84-61 late in the fourth before settling for the 20-point victory.
Rebecca Islas led CPP with 17 points and seven rebounds as
Jordyn Shane added 16, also with seven boards.
Monica Todd chipped in with 12 tallies while
Lauryn Catching posted 10. The Broncos shot 54.5 percent (30 of 55) as they outscored the Otters 40-18 in the paint.
Cal Poly Pomona heads to Hayward on Saturday to face Cal State East Bay. Tipoff from Pioneer Gymnasium is set for 1:00 pm.
