Women's Hoops Rallies To Defeat Otters, 59-54

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team put together another strong fourth quarter to beat Cal State Monterey Bay 59-54 on the road Saturday afternoon in Seaside.

The Broncos rise to 5-2 on the year and 2-0 in the CCAA, while the Otters fall to 0-3 (0-1 CCAA).

Three Broncos ended the game in double figures, led by Jackie Ricketson's 17-point effort on a staggering 6-of-12 shooting performance. She was one rebound shy of a double-double, posting nine boards.

Kasey Smit chipped in 12 points, while Dominique Dotson added another 11 for CPP.

The Broncos came out strong and shot a 53.85-percentage from the floor to grab a 16-14 lead after the first 10 minutes. Lauryn Catching sparked a 7-0 run to open the game with a jumper, followed by a Dotson steal and fastbreak layup.

CSUMB managed to tie the game at 7-7, but Ricketson drained a three to keep the Broncos in front. It remained close as the first quarter wound down, but Catching ended the quarter the same way she started with a jumper to put CPP up 16-14.

Both teams battled for the upper hand in the second, but Ricketson was fouled attempting a triple to end the quarter. She made all three of her free throws to put CPP into halftime with a 36-31 lead.

The Otters took control of the game in the second half and forced the Broncos to take tough shots. It led to CSUMB holding a 50-47 lead heading into the fourth.

CPP dug deep and outscored CSUMB 12-4 in the final quarter to seal the victory. Ricketson put the Broncos within one heading down the stretch, where the visitors ended the game on an 8-2 run to win 59-54.

The Broncos take a brief break from CCAA action, hosting Concordia University of Irvine on Wednesday (Nov. 27) at 4 p.m.
