Broncos Lose To Simon Fraser Sunday, 68-63

ORANGE, Calif. -- The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team held a double-digit lead midway through the third quarter, but Simon Fraser rallied late to earn the 68-63 win over CPP to wrap up the CCA D2 Tipoff Classic at Santiago Canyon College on Sunday in Orange.

The Broncos fall to 2-1 on the year while the Clan rises to 2-1.

Monica Todd matched two players from Simon Fraser for the game-high in points with 13; Todd also turned in a double-double with 11 rebounds.  Kasey Smit chipped in with 12 points, Dominique Dotson with 11 and Sheridan Glover with 10.  As a team, the Broncos shot 34.4 percent (21 for 61) from the floor and 15.8 percent (3 of 19) from three-point range.  On the other end of the floor, Simon Fraser knocked in 48.1 percent of their shots (25 for 52), including seven made three-pointers.

CPP held a lead as much as 14 points on a pair of occasions, the last coming after a pair of Dotson free throws with 9:04 to play in the third quarter.  With 2:59 left in the third, Smit hit a jumper to give the Broncos a 46-35 lead, however the Clan came roaring back, going on a 14-2 run to take a 49-48 lead with 9:22 to play in regulation.  The teams would battle through three tie scores down the stretch, but after Simon Fraser took a 63-60 lead on a three-pointer with 2:20 left, they would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

For SFU, both Georgia Swant and Ozioma Nwabuko had a team-high 13 points.

Up next, Cal Poly Pomona will host Point Loma on Friday at 5:00 pm in Kellogg Arena as part of the annual CCAA/PacWest Challenge.
