Broncos Sprint Past Sea Lions In Home Opener

POMONA -- Jackie Ricketson went for 18 points on 6 for 11 shooting, along with six assists and five rebounds as the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team blew past visiting Point Loma, 81-71, on Friday evening at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.

The Broncos rise to 3-1 this season while the Sea Lions open their 2019-20 campaign at 0-1.

The game was never in doubt as CPP led for more than 38 minutes.  The Broncos ran out to a 25-12 lead after the first period of play, then led by as much as 25 points at the start of the third quarter before settling for the 10-point win.

Kasey Smit chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds, Jayda Villareal added 13 points and Sheridan Glover scored 10 points in just 11 minutes off the bench.  CPP connected on 47.1 percent of its shots (33 of 70) while holding PLNU to 39.3 percent (22 of 56).

The Sea Lions got a game-high 24 points from Cara Liggins, who led three other PLNU players in double-figures.

Cal Poly Pomona will face No. 4 Azusa Pacific Saturday in Azusa.
