CHICO, Calif. -- Riding the 17-point effort from
Dwight Ramos, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team stormed past Chico State, 63-44, on Saturday night at Acker Gymnasium in Chico.
Extending their win streak to nine games, the Broncos (16-5 overall) surge into sole possession of second place in the CCAA standings at 14-5 in conference play, one game behind first-place Cal State East Bay (15-4) with three regular season games remaining. The Wildcats fall to 9-10 (8-10 CCAA).
Ramos was the only player on either team scoring in double figures with his 17 tallies on 6 of 9 shooting.
William Christmas and
Jordan Ogundiran, who combine to score 28 points a game, were held to just eight points total between the two (Ogundiran had five).
It was the Broncos defense that stole the show, however, as they allowed the second-lowest score by an opponent this season, holding the Wildcats to just 27.4 percent from the floor on 15 of 54. Meanwhile, CPP hit on 48 percent on 24 of 50.
Cal Poly Pomona will now return home for the final three games of the regular season, beginning with a Thursday night date with Stanislaus State. Tipoff from Kellogg Arena is set for 7:30 pm.
