2/2/2019 6:41:00 PM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team suffered a pair of losses on Saturday at UC Colorado Springs on day two of the 2019 season.

The Broncos fell 10-5 in the first contest of the doubleheader and 20-7 in the second. The two squads will wrap up the four-game set on Sunday with a 10 a.m. Pacific first pitch.

Nic Hernandez blasted a three-run homerun in the first game Saturday and Brennan McKenzie collected a two-run homer in the second, but CPP couldn't keep up with the Mountain Lions' offense on Saturday. The home squad totaled 29 hits through Saturday's doubleheader.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the first game, the Broncos bounced back with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Christian Moya collected an RBI single and later in the inning, Hernandez produced an RBI on a groundout to first base.

UCCS outscored the Broncos 8-3 the rest of the way to put the game out of reach. That momentum carried into the second game as the Mountain Lions took a 10-2 lead into the fifth inning, when CPP earned RBI hits from Moya, Drew Cowley and Cesar Lopez to trim the margin to 10-5.

The final pitcher of the day for the Broncos, Darin May, tossed a scoreless inning with one hit allowed and one strikeout.
