POMONA -- The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team demolished visiting Cal State San Marcos in the second half en route to a convincing 88-55 victory on Saturday night at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
The Broncos have won seven straight games, rising to 14-5 overall and 12-5 in the CCAA. The Cougars fell to 5-17 (2-14 CCAA).
After trailing by two at the intermission, CPP raced out of the gates in the second half and enjoyed a 21-2 run in a span of 3:31 to turn its deficit into a 17-point lead at 50-33 with 16 minutes left. In fact, the Broncos scored 45 points in the first 14 minutes of the second period before the Cougars could score their 10th point of the half.
Led by
William Christmas' 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists, CPP had three players score in double-figures.
Jordan Ogundiran had 20 points with nine steals in 27 minutes of action and
Phoenix Shackelford came off the bench to contribute 14 points.
The Broncos shot 52.5 percent on 32 of 61 attempts, draining 10 three-pointers, four of which came out of the hands of Shackelford. The hosts also turned 23 CSUSM turnovers into 44 points.
Cal State San Marcos got 15 points from Khalil Fuller.
Cal Poly Pomona will hit the road for a tough two-game road trip to northern California, beginning with a Thursday night battle at Humboldt State in Arcata. Tip off from Lumberjack Arena is set for 7:30 pm.
